Intermittent fasting and its benefits
July 17, 2017

Â
ALWAYS consult your doctor before making changes to your diet

I've been experimenting with intermittent fasting the past 2-3 months and am quite happy with the results. In short, I've lost 3% body fat, by skipping breakfast on most days. The first few days were challenging, but I've gotten so used to it, that I no longer have an appetite in the morning. My first meal of the day is usually lunch.

If you're interested in knowing how fasting works and why it's so good for health (and weight loss), read this article from Dr Jason Fung - an expert on fasting and it's benefits. It's a great article that explains it in easy to understand language.Â
Â
"It is important to realize that this is a completely natural process. Humans have evolved this mechanism of food storage, and there is nothing inherently unhealthy about fasting. It’s all part of a natural balance of being in the fed state and the fasted state."

There are plenty of ways to take on a fast. If your interested in trying - with the consensus, guidance and supervision of your doctor, of course - the Diet Doctor website has a very handy "Intermittent fasting for beginners" guide. This detailed guide tells how it works, what the (long) list of benefits are, how to go about it and lots of additional information.Â
Â
My next challenge is a 24 hour fast once a week. I'll let you know how I get on.Â
